We are so grateful for the presence of this massive and sacred mountain. Mount Sorpis looms over us, remaining constant in the ever changing and evolving of our town of Carbondale. It becomes part of the experience of life here. Constantly inspiring and grounding us, we often find ourselves stopping to look up with deep gratitude. It's no wonder the Ute inhabitants of this valley called her "Ancient Mountain Heart Sits Here." She was revered as "Mother Mountain" because of the dueling summits. You may spot her in the backdrop of many of our photos. Mount Sorpis is the icon of Carbondale, and we are proud!
